Sand Quarry Slope Stabilization

Location: Santa Cruz County, California Timeframe: 2003-2004 Client: Large Quarry Operator Description: A sand quarry was required to stabilize slopes at 1.5H:1V. These slopes were prone to relatively shallow failures which destroyed vegetation and led to extensive erosion. Weakly cemented sandstone slopes became unstable when exposed to long periods of groundwater seepage. Mitigation and repair required free-draining, stable slopes that could be easily revegetated with native species. Solution was an innovative combination of Presto GEOWEB Cellular Confinement System and Tensar geogrid reinforcing.
